2014

Dr. Rosin helped diagnose and treat Mathieu Marshall, a child living in St. Kitts. This sparked the idea for the Marshall family to help other children. They helped arrange a meeting with the St. Kitts government to propose bringing her expertise and training to the Caribbean.

2015

Dr. Sheryl Rosin conducted the first of many workshops by partnering with the University of Medicine and Health Sciences-St. Kitts  for teachers working with autistic children. She also opened up a free clinic for a few days at the University to help with the diagnosis of families on the island and many new cases of autism were diagnosed.

2016

Awareness and sensitivity training of autism was held for educators in the federation.
 
Free Autism clinics were run by Dr. Rosin and others to help diagnose and educate families in St. Kitts. This continues in St. Kitts and in other Caribbean countries to date.
 
The documentary Touching Autism was created to help spread awareness in St. Kitts and throughout the world.

2017

Certification workshop to train a cohort of 9 Kittitians to be autism experts and lead the Island towards the delivery of evidence-based autism screening, assessments, and treatment.

2018

The St. Kitts Spectrum Services Centre opened September 8th, 2018 and was the dream Dr. Rosin envisioned the Island to have back when she started helping in 2014. Dr. Rosin partnered with the Ministries of Education and Health in St. Kitts to create this free clinic. This endeavor was supported by the USAID (United States Agency for International Development), Christophe Harbour Foundation & Source Relief in Operation Autism Relief in order to deliver all the resources to St. Kitts for use the St. Kitts Spectrum Services Centre.

2020

The success of the SKSSC lead us to work on expanding the current facility to obtain a new building in St. Kitts to accommodate all the children in need of services. Fundraising began to create a larger space with more rooms for therapies and for a sensory gym to improve the lives of children with autism.

2021

The health Minister, Mr. Powell, created an advisory Committee for the St. Kitts spectrum center selecting ten individuals to be members of the St. Kitts spectrum Services Centre Advisory Committee on April 22nd.

At a press conference Minister Powell stated “Too often over the course of our history, persons who have some degree of autism have been misdiagnosed, have been shunned and have not had the opportunities that they deserve to really excel,  Autism is not a bad thing. It just means that these students learn and express themselves differently.”

2022

Dr. Sheryl Rosin visited St. Kitts and continued to provide intensive intervention via the Caribbean Autism Project funding.

2023

Caribbean Autism Project doing business as Star Foundation changed from a private foundation to a public charity, 501(c)3. June 30th. With this new 501(c)3 determination, Star Foundation hosted its first annual fundraising gala "Disco at the Beach" on November 3rd at The Beach Club, Palm Beach FL.

2024

Star Foundation hosted its first charity golf tournament "Playing Fore a Cause" on May 24th at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

OUR STORY

The concept for the Star Foundation took shape in 2013 when Dr. Rosin had an encounter with a young child with autism during her vacation in St. Kitts. The child’s family shared their struggle, revealing the scarcity of trained professionals and the prevailing stigma surrounding developmental disabilities in underserved regions.

Meet Our Founder

Dr. Sheryl Rosin
Dr. Sheryl Rosin founded the Caribbean Autism Project 501(c)3 in 2018, now formally known as Star Foundation. Please see Our Story below for the journey that led Dr. Rosin to create this incredible non-profit to support individuals with autism and other developmental disorders living in underserved, low-resourced communities around the world. Dr. Rosin  is a certified speech-language pathologist by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed to practice in the state of Florida and Massachusetts. She has been a practicing clinician for over 25 years. She is a Certified Autism Specialist by the International Board of Continuing Education and Credentialing Standards, a certified and licensed Play Project Provider/Trainer, and is a member of the Florida Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Autism Society of America, and Autism Society of Florida. She is the winner of the 2016 Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Clinician of the Year Award, and the 2017 Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Recent Clinical Achievement from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association for her philanthropic work in this area.
